Cough it up

So I've decided I want to know more about you but I figured I better tell you some more about me--just to make it even steven.

Here are 10 things you might not know about K:
  1. I've chewed my fingernails for just about forever. It's horrible and yucky and the only thing that gets me to stop are weekly manicures.
  2. I never, ever, ever like the way I look in pictures.
  3. My purse was once snatched out of my hand in front of work and I chased down the guy who snatched it. I was pregnant with Ezra and became winded pretty quickly, but the police caught him and I got all my things back.
  4. My birth mom died of brain cancer when I was 8 and my dad remarried a few years later to my current mom.
  5. I am hippy and pear shaped and having Pregnancy Boobs helped balance out my lower half. Lunges would probably help too, but lunges are hard.
  6. I do absolutely horribly on tests of all sorts but can clean house while watching Jeopardy and playing Trivial Pursuits.
  7. I want to stay married to T for lots of fabulous reasons but also so that I have someone to take trips with and hold hands with once Ezra and Iris leave the house.
  8. I give people mini-makeovers in my mind while I sit in waiting rooms or stand in line.
  9. Lately, I am really fearful of how fast Ezra is growing up.
  10. Thanksgiving is my all-time favorite holiday for it involves family and gravy.

So that's me.

Now you go.

1. I chewed my nails until I lost my two front teeth in an accident at eighteen and got veneers. Expensive, but effective cure!
2. ME EITHER.
3. I don't speak to my biological mother. AT ALL. She is the most evil piece of work I have ever met, including my ex-MIL, which is saying something.
4. I got mugged once. For thirty-seven cents. I filed a police report since there was a knife involved and the guy went to jail.
5. I'm double-jointed.
6. I had no boobs at all until I was twenty, then A-cups, then I was a B when I got pregnant with my oldest and proceeded to gain a cup-size per child (even with losing the baby weight). Fortunately I'm not having any more children!
7. I hated dogs until we got Isis, and now I'm Dog People. Hell, there's a stray cur-puppy on my lap as I type sleeping.
8. It's NOT staying though.
9. One time I was dating this guy who was very sweet but not a match for me, and told him I was dumping him because I was so shallow I couldn't get past his third nipple. He then had it removed FOR ME. I felt so bad I dated him for another month after that.
10. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, too. What's not to love about food and family? Mmm...mashed potatoes and stuffing and gravy, oh my!

1. I also am a nail-biter but have stopped since I got engaged so the rock can look nice. I have to have them painted at all times though, otherwise they have no chance. I've also chipped a tooth biting a nail!
2. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. I'm nervous for Christmas card pictures.
3. You go girl!
4. I'm sorry about your mom. A very good family friend of ours passed away due to brain cancer and it was hard on all of us, so I could only imagine.
5. I'm pretty busty - which I hate. I wish my girls were a size B, then I wouldn't feel so top heavy!
6. I do better with written/essay tests than multiple choice. I always second guess myself with the number of choices to choose from!
7. So sweet! I also would like to be married for lots of years!
8. I too give mini makeovers in my mind. And I feel sorry for them at the same time. Ha!
9. I've been noticing how big he is. He seems to be growing so fast!
10. Love Thanksgiving! Stuffing is my favorite. I could live off that stuff! Plus mashed potatoes. Anything potato is a friend of mine!

1. Nope, don't chew my nails. They are lovely, long and natural. I have to carve time to shape or trim them. (Just did that before checking blogs/emails)
2. Not always happy about my looks in pics, have a few favorites. I don't want family to look back in the future and wonder why there aren't any of me.
3. Glad my Mom has had her 3rd chance in life and that we are going up to MN with the kids for the first time in over a year to see her! Eric's mom is the nicest lady I've ever met.
4. I had my purse, along with my Dad's bag (which held Mom's wedding rings) was stolen in the hospital while Mom was super sick. A worker's Bible in a case was stolen next door. She was watching a hospitalized in-mate. Because she was an employee, security stopped the trash compactors and retrieved all our belongings minus the cash. Good thing since my license was there and I had a plane ticket for a few days later.
5. I just don't always like the bulges on my body.
6. I so want Eric by my side forever. My ring sparkles the most in our church. Someday we will be able to hold hands in church again.
7. I look at people's shoes. I can't stand navy with black.
8. Simon is so big. He can do so much. Norah is growing so fast. She is so independent. I keep telling them not to grow, at least until after Christmas (so their clothes fit).
9. Thanksgiving is great, because it is just food and family. I love, love, love the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The anticipation makes Christmas for me.
10. I love to cook. I hate to clean. I enjoy crafting things for my children and others. Reading consumes every last minute, so I usually read more during summer when I am not working.

I don't chew my nails, however, I pick at my cuticles. It's a horrible habit, but I'm not sure I'll ever stop.

I love to read and always have. When I was little -- and even when I should have grown out of it, say 10-12ish -- I would act out scenes in my favorite books: Little House series, Anne of Green Gables, etc.

My grandma, who could see me doing this in the backyard, thought I was a little weird.

I grew up in a house less than 100 yards from my grandparents. When I was 14, we swapped houses, so my parents now live in my dad's childhood home. I got married in the backyard.

My dad is not my biological father, but has been my dad since I was four. He adopted us girls just after my 14th birthday -- so, 16 years ago this December.

Growing up, I wanted and fully expected to go to college and then go to live in a big city where I would date -- but never marry -- fabulous, sophisticated men named things like Julian. My husband's name is Mike.

I'm the first person in my family to earn a college degree in the traditional fashion -- meaning 4-year degree directly after high school.

I really want to organize some sort of meet up with my blog friends -- and Michelle -- in 2011. Interested?

Need to think more about my list. I wish Blogger allowed us to comment on comments in a more logical fashion.

Hilary: LOVE the house swapping story. So adorable!

2011 meet up...would love it!

Confessions:
I sucked my thumb until the ripe age of 10 or 11. Even worked my way around a "crib" in my mouth to prevent me from sucking my thumb. I just hooked my thumb over that bad boy. Thanks M&D for the $$$ of dental work! Sophie and Emma...don't even think of it.

I really don't like working anymore. If I could have still met my husband I think I'd throw away my degree (and 1/2 -it's complicated) and the student loan bills. Because all I really want is to be a SAHM and I don't think our society adequately supports either decision-to be a Working Mother or a SAHM.

I hope my gramma lives forever. She's 90. I miss my grandfather so much that I can't think of life without my gramma.

I don't like living in the DMV. It's too expensive, too snotty, too crowded, too congested. I can't wait to leave.

I love being pregnant.

1. Don't chew my nails. Too germaphobic for that.
2. I usually don't, but have been biting my tongue about it so the shorty doesn't imitate this particular brand of Crazy.
3. When I worked in retail, I chased down a shoplifter through the food court and into the parking lot. It was terrifying, for some reason.
4. That is really sad, and I'm sorry.
5. After spending an adolescence hating my small chest, I love my small boobs. My big nursing boobs felt incredibly conspicuous to me.
6. I can TEAR IT UP when it comes to Jeopardy & Trivial Pursuit.
7. I can't imagine my life without Brad.
8. I am now paranoid that people are giving me mini-makeovers when I'm waiting for my annual exam.
9. I cried like a crazy person upon leaving the hospital with my 2-day-old baby because she was "growing up too fast." That feeling has never left me. Urgh.
10. I will happily take some gravy, mashed potatoes & pie. Hold the crazy sister-in-law.

1. I chew and tear my nails obsessively. My mother has beautiful hands and even did some hand modeling but I have horrible looking fingers.
2. I hate my hair and obsess about it in every picture.
3. I had two cars vandalized and 1 car stolen all in one weekend.
4. I have hips and a butt--enuff said
5. I feel like I have a listening disability. I don't like to listen to boring repetitive talk. I took 9 years of French and can't speak a word of it.
6. I want to stay married forever as DH knew my body pre-baby so I think it would be unfair to the next guy. Kind of like getting a used car.
7. I dated someone with 5 nipples
8. My parents didn't go to college.
9. I get upset that LO is going to leave me to go to college even though she is 7 months old.
10. I secretly love the holidays but love complaining about them even more.

2. I like to look at myself in pictures and am amazed how different I look in each of them.
3. When I was in high school my school bag was once stolen from outside a changing room. I also left my watch in this purse. The watch was a gift from my father, and I was afraid to tell him. I begged my grandmother to give me the money to buy the same watch. My father never found out.
4. My Mom is a fraternal twin.
5. I like my body more now than before i was pregnant. I think I lost my belly thanks to nursing.
6. I do great on tests but hate to clean the house.
7. Does T. read this blog?
8. I tend to pick out people from the crowd when I commute on the subway and stare at them for the whole trip.
9. Lately, I realized that babies indeed do get more mature when they get older. Thank God.
10. Thanksgiving is my all-time favorite holiday for it involves food and no presents.

1. I only "chew" when a nail is rough or ragged. Then I spit. Ha ha...no I don't use tobacco!
2. I've never been robbed, mugged, or bullied. That's what you get when you live in the suburbs, I guess.
3. I still live next door to my parents. When I got married, I just carried all my stuff across the yard.
4. I am top-heavy. Hubby wishes I had a bigger badonkey.
5. I hate to exercise but got into running over the summer. I ran a leg of a marathon in September.
6. I would rock at Wheel of Fortune. Jeopardy, not so much.
7. My biggest fear is losing my husband. I don't know what I would do without him.
8. I am very un-observant of people and things. Once I leave a room, I couldn't describe anyone in it to you. I hope I never have to give a description to a sketch artist!
9. It sometimes depresses me that my oldest is 11 and my baby is 2 and potty trained. I would keep on having babies if I could.
10. Ah, gravy. Now you've got me thinking of gravy. Shoot...I NEED gravy now!
