You all rock steady

So!

I totally emailed the professors and said, in more professional lingo, "I've emailed you. I have not heard back. Perhaps you give me a shout-out otherwise I won't be there."

Blammo.

Received an email today saying that I was in there like swimwear for Thursday. And an apology. Holla.

So that's over with, but! I have another! (See what happens? Just like at work, you prove yourself capable only to get...more work.) And at the risk of looking like someone who is feeble-minded and can't make her own decisions, here is the situation:

Formula. We spend a lot on it. Last week I totally scored an awesome deal on Walgreen's website. Went back to re-order, aaaaannnnd negatory. Price was double and closer to what it is at most stores. Balls. I think they heard my heart rejoicing.

Anyway, after a hot tip on the preemie message board, I totally typed "formula" into my area's Craigslist board. I was met with lots of racing paraphernalia but also a lot of people selling baby formula that was either sent to them from the formula companies or new cans purchased excessively and now their child is on milk or whatever.

One of the listings is for the Neosure powder/gold and unicorn horn dust Iris chugs. Five unopened cans of it! For 50% cheaper than in the store!

So, do I:

Buy it? Because, hello, cost savings. Five cans of formula will last about six days. Buying it, though, means I'll have to drive out 30 minutes out of town to pick it up and what if they're creepy or want to talk?

or,

Not buy it because that would be like buying someone's underwear on Craigslist and what kind of Creepy Pete does that?

I don't think buying it is creepy but it sounds like a pain to drive for it. But this is from someone who even buys jeans on amazon now.

Buy it. 50% OFF! It's unopened. You'd be helping that person score back some money. And it's 30 minutes in the car BY YOURSELF.

Hell, I'LL go pick it up if you want.

Whew! I thought I was going to be in trouble. It's very easy to take the high road when I'm not in the situation with difficult people and when I've never gone through having a child with serious health problems, etc. etc....

Buy it from Craigslist. I would. I have even sold some on there before myself. It is vacume sealed (just make SURE that it is) and I think it will be fine.

I was all set to agree with Erica -- good price, but lordy that seems like a far drive and would the savings be eaten up by gas? -- when I saw Samantha's comment. Thirty minutes alone. Hmmmm, the deal is looking better all the time.

A friend of mine used to get tons of free formula on WIC, more than they could use. She would sell it on ebay, making a huge profit for herself. I was morally against her actions but someone ended up getting a good deal.

Hello!!! I have been following your blog for a while, I was introduced to it by a friend. I also had boy/girl twins, born early, and I lost my son. Anyhow, my daughter is home and the reason I am writing you is that because of my daughters birth weight she qualified for WIC and FREE FORMULA!!! Yes FREE!!! It was heaven on earth, that stuff gets expensive. Any questions, just let me know but I hope this helps. Take care.

I'd buy it. #1 it's 50% cheaper. #2 You're helping another parent out there who bought to much unicorn dust and could probably use a little cashola instead of letting it sit around forevah.

Hmmmm.... I would probably buy it. It's vacuum packed right? And hello, this is ME -- so if I would buy it from Craigslist you know you can.

And so glad you finally heard back from the prof. Seriously. Ridiculous.

Though, wouldn't it be funny if it turned out she reads your blog and was all... GASP! That's ME! I better go email K! And that's the only reason she got back to you?

Also: Samantha, you make me laugh.

I agree, just pop open the lids first to make sure they all are sealed and I think you got yourself a deal.

I'm with HeatherK. Have you checked if your insurance will cover the cost of the formula due to her health? Might be worth a shot. Although you might shoot yourself in the foot if you've been paying out of pocket for it and they cover it. Maybe your pedi can write a perscription to cover it? Just a thought.

BUY IT! Have you tried e-bay? My Abby was on Nutramigin for an entire year ($30 a pop for the can and they only come in the small size). Every couple of months I would buy a handful of cans from someone selling in a "lot" - sometimes as low as $15 a can. It's totally worth it and not creepy at all. (Just make sure the seller mentions that all cans are unopened and if they don't list the expiration dates, ask)! I can tell you in a year of buying it - I never once had a problem.
