My hair is being a douche

I started growing my hair out, I think, in the winter of 2008. I had a pixie cut and my hair is the sort of hair that even when super short, still has to be done otherwise I look like a hobo. I don't have thick hair or hair with any bend or fun texture. It is fine and super straight. Oh! And now complete with grays. Boo.
Anyway, always having to do short hair bothered me. Where was the convenience? Where was the ease? I was getting pimped.

Around that winter, T and I started talking about having more kids and seeing Dr. EBFS closer to when Ezra turned one. Having longer hair and more kids seemed to make sense, as hello! ponytail! Zip! Zip!

Well, we all know how that visit to Dr. EBFS turned out and here I am also with longer hair. Win-win.

Anyway, I will never, ever, ever cut my hair as short as I had it before. It was the most heinous growing out period ever experienced ever. Ever. Really. That many layers that short were a beyotch on me. Carey Mulligan seems to be pulling it off but she is fabulous and I am hoopty.

So here I am with hair just barely past my shoulders. It is ever so slightly angled and I have a heavy bang (due to two insane cowlicks and hair so straight it won't do a good swoopy bang). It looks kind of like this. But I'm not Camilla Belle and certainly am not friends with Joe Jonas. I was initially thinking I wanted hair this long, but now I'm wondering.

While I am happy I muscled through the growing out phase, lately my hair has been feeling blah. Sad. Staticky on my neck. Bothersome. Not as swingy as I would like. I style it and condition and use lot of potions, but I'm feeling like a change is nigh.

I am in love with Keira Knightley's new bob and gasped when I first saw a picture of it. I adore it. Now having longer hair and a crapton of practice, I don't feel as handicapped in the styling department and think I could bust out the wavy versions. And they'd take less time than it currently does to do that because there'd be less length.

I'm also seriously considering chopping it because it's not as dramatic as before and so growing it out a four-five more inches would just be...easy. And less involving of headbads and artful tucking and transition hairstyles as before when starting with a pixie cut.

Anyway, I have a cut and color this Saturday and I am SO considering bringing these pics in.

Thoughts?

Do I just stay the course and hope the static is less of an issue once it's not so cold? Or do I chop it and hopefully love it?

MAN, that hair cut is GORGEOUS. Take the pictures in; at the very least, even if you don't try to replicate it, it will give the stylist an idea what you like.
I am currently growing my hair out from a spontaneous "bit longer than a pixie" hair cut I went for last summer. And...some days I seriously consider shaving it & just keeping it that way. But I want long hair again. WHINE. The growing out part is so horrendous, there should be some kind of support group.
Anyhow, the trick is making it through the blazing Mississippi summer with hair not *quite* long enough for a pony tail. Hold me.

(WV: nutjays. I can't help it; I giggled. I am seventh grader.)

Go for it.

I will admit, I am a)all for the short hair, and b)itching to cut off my own hair but committed to growing it out to donate, which b1)makes me even more pro-short hair than usual.

Still, it's a great look and one that would look great on your face shape, I think.

I think it's super cute. Cut it!

Oh I think you could TOTALLY rock Kiera's bob. So much so that I am very jealous of the idea!

Also, we want after pics :)

You could so rock that Kiera hair! Wanting a hair change must be in the air. I'm long overdue for some new hair - color at the very least, maybe a sassy cut. I do love the ease of my long hair though...can't wait to see what you do with yours!

Love that cut! I would do it! Every time I think about cutting my hair, I just think "it's only hair, and it will grow back." I am in desperate need of a haircut, but am just going for a trim this time. I'm in a wedding in June and have my eye on a super sweet up-do that will only work with hair my current shoulder length or longer. As soon as that wedding is over, it's going to be good-bye hair (just in time for the hell that is humidity in St. Louis during July & August). And, as Janet said, we need after pictures!

OK - I love short hair. My only thing is you currently have bangs so the bob is going to look really different than the picture. I had bangs when I first started cutting my hair shorter and it just is something you have to work with. Maybe go part of the way towards the bob while you grow out your bangs? Or look for pictures of a bob with bangs? Just to be more realistic. Also, for me, the length my hair is now is actually easier than a pony tail if you can believe it. I had to escape the ponytail.
Good luck.

Apparently, we Ericas think alike, because I was going to tell you that the Keira hair is cute, but will look much different with bangs.

I, too, know the horror of growing out a pixie cut, but I went the opposite extreme and cut it all back off and have vowed to never let it be long again forever and ever, Amen.

Maddie's decided to grow out her newly shorn pixie and I envy her the ability to do it at 4 when she doesn't give a damn about what it looks like. The process will be hard on me, but only because I'm envisioning getting the stink eye from other adults over why my kid looks so god awful.

Anyhow, to summarize: be sure you'd like the stacked bob with heavy bangs, but I say go for it. The grow out process will be much less traumatic this time for sure.

Ah! I saw the new Kiera bob recently and had decided to shape my hair back up like that for my wedding. I LOVE a bob! I think you have great hair and a sassy bob would look killa on you.

LOL...homeboy must have used my computer recently. I didn't even notice he was signed in rather than me. Bwahahaha. No, Blane isn't sportin' a bob wig for the wedding.

Love her hair and I'm sure it will look adorable on you.

My hair needs a cut and I'm trying to figure out how to go. It is starting to fall out thanks to the lack of pregnancy hormones. I think I could donate a wig to a Barbie each day with the amount of hair that is falling out.

I'm just jealous at super straight! Slightly wavy calls for styling to make it look somewhat decent curly and definite stranglements to get it straight. I am so excited for the ponytail this summer. Your hair will look cute and adorable no matter what. I have heard if you swipe a dryer sheet through your hair, that static goes away. I use pomade, and that helps too.

I have very strong opinions about hair as I have suffered from the WORST fine stringy hair on earth since birth. I really think that you have to stick it out until summer. The long hair looks really good with a strong full bang. If you decide to take the pics and cut your hair, bring the picture of Keira with the straight bob. I have taken in stylized picture before and they look great on the day of the cut but I am never able to replicate the look. It is better to start with the straight and work into the stylized one. maybe show her the stylized photo at the end of the cut.
I have been cutting out my gray hairs, maybe I should consider a color. hmmmmm

My hair is fine and stringy too. Here's the thing, I always have weeks after cut remorse. Its fun the first week, even two weeks. Then, I miss the ponytail, and the braid, and the options. Have you tried braids? The kind that catches all the front hairs and you can still clip it back?

Keira's bob is awfully cute, but I am a big ol' wimp when it comes to chopping off my hair. I always need the security of being able to throw it back into a ponytail. BUT: you don't seem to me bothered by the bangs you have (I LOVE bangs, but cannot stand having them LAYING on my FACE), so perhaps the ponytail thing is not as big an issue for you.
In sum: DOOO IIIIT. And then post pictures.

I don't know K. She's got bend going on and we do not. I tried a style like tha once and mine just wound up looking like a bad cut on my fine hair. I love your straight long hair!
